The Power of Knowing Where You Are Going

Before anything else, thank you. The response to launching this new community has been incredible. People have subscribed, people have become paying members, and many of you have already joined the WhatsApp group where the conversations have started to take on a life of their own.

It feels like the first sign that next year is going to be full of growth, honesty, and a bit of healthy pressure that pushes all of us forward.

On Purpose with Mike Omoniyi is a reader-supported publication. To receive new posts and support my work, consider becoming a free or paid subscriber.

If you have not upgraded your subscription yet, it is still very easy to do. You can simply update your membership on Substack and become a paid member whenever you are ready.

A note on purpose

I have been thinking a lot about purpose recently, partly because life has a way of confronting you with yourself when you least expect it. It’s this thinking that led to the creation of this new community. There are mornings when I feel incredibly clear about what I am doing, and others where I realise clarity is fragile. We do not always wake up inspired. We do not always feel steady. However, something powerful happens when you decide to move through the world with intention, even on the days when you feel a bit scattered. There is something powerful about exploring what your rhythm is.

Purpose is not a lightning bolt of clarity, like it’s always portrayed in films. I think it’s more like a rhythm you learn over time. It grows through the choices you make when no one is watching and the small promises you keep to yourself. It gives direction without turning you into a machine. It lets you build a life that is coherent, honest, and aligned with what you truly value.

My hope is that this community becomes a place where we can work that out together. A place where people are thoughtful, curious, open, and willing to take responsibility for their lives. You are here early, and that means something. I am grateful you chose to be part of this.

New YouTube Series: My Trip to Israel

The first episode of my Israel POV series is now live. I filmed the trip last year during a genuinely difficult season of my life. I went a month after my mum passed away, carrying her memory with me and trying to make sense of what the world looked like without her. The trip became transformative in ways I did not expect. The video takes you through the B Roll, the moments that shaped me, the places that stirred my faith, and the quiet reflections that helped me feel human again. It is personal, emotional, and honest, and I think you will connect with it deeply.

Upcoming Event: Black Before Christian

In December, Common Sense is hosting an event titled Black Before Christian. It is a space that sits right at the meeting point of identity, faith, culture, and lived experience.

The conversations will be honest, nuanced, and rooted in history as well as personal story. If you care about how Blackness and Christianity interact in real life, this event is for you.
